Making Food Fun

Abstract

We would love to provide creative ideas of how to encourage children to be more adventures and healthy, by engaging in various fun food activities and tasting sessions.

Our activities have been extremely successful within our holiday club and has improved many children's diet and nutrition within the club and at home and school, we can share some case studies of this.

We will have a few tasting activities set up and share many more ideas using power point and other visuals. We include different cultures, sensory needs, dietary needs and how food can have a positive effect on behaviours. This will be an interactive session for those who attend.

We will be asking 'what food means to you' to get discussion going. Give the presentation and finish with the food tasting activities finishing with a discussion and overview.

How This Connects to the Sustainability Theme

We are encouraging healthy diet and living well within the limits of our planet, fresh fruit and veg is a big part.

By encouraging children to try new foods promotes a healthy, sustainable diet. This is affordable for families while providing good nutrition. we try to use as much fresh, raw foods as possible and minimise packaging.

These sessions not only have a positive impact on the children but it also helps educate the families and give ideas.

We promote drinking water and alternative milk which has health benefits and is proven to reduce greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change.

Some local supermarkets will support these activities meaning reduced cost for providers.
